Constitution & Bylaws
Article I
Name
The name of the organization shall be the Information Systems Association of KU. This may also be abbreviated as ISAK (pronounced i-sack).
Article II
Mission
The purpose of ISAK is to foster and promote leadership, creativity, and overall professional development of its members as it relates to information systems. ISAK also wishes to provide an earnest atmosphere and promote collaboration and discussion.
Article III
Membership
A major objective of ISAK is to provide an atmosphere that promotes collaboration and discussion amongst its members. Because of this the following objectives have been established:
- Members must be in good academic standing with the University of Kansas.
- Active members have the privileges of voting and receiving information and invitations to all ISAK functions and seminars.
- Participation: members can miss no more than one meeting a semester.
Article IV
Officers
Organization offices include the president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary. A listing of officer responsibilities is included at the end of the by-laws. Organization offices shall be held for one academic term. During the second half of the academic term, an election shall determine the officers for the following term. Members may nominate themselves, or members may nominate other members. All members are permitted to run for office, including active officers. Members must be initiated by the beginning of their office term.
Active participants in the organization shall select the officers. The candidate who receives a simple vote/appointment will be awarded the office. If an officer decides to resign, he or she may do so through written notification. Removal of an officer may be done through a majority vote of the executive committee. Shall a vacancy occur the executive committee shall select an appropriate representative. If necessary an election may be held to fill the position at a later date.
These four positions will comprise the Executive Board of ISAK. The principal responsibilities of the Executive Board are to establish long-term plans for the organization, determine and communicate policy, coordinate activities, oversee finances, and ensure the continuity of operation from one academic term to the next.
Article V
Amendments/Additions to the Constitution
Any active member of ISAK has the privilege of submitting an amendment/addition to the constitution. The submission must be given to the President during a general meeting. The President may request for the proposed amendment to be shared and discussed orally with the active ISAK members during a general meeting.
Article VI
Faculty Advisor
The organization shall have at least one faculty advisor. The advisor shall act in a directory capacity to maintain the professional order of meetings. The faculty advisor shall have the right to attend meetings of any and all committees. The advisor shall have no voting privileges, but shall have the right to speak freely without being recognized by the chairperson. The faculty advisor shall serve as a liaison between the administration of the University and the association.
Article VII
Officer Responsibilities
President:
The President shall predominantly provide leadership and guidance for all officers and members of ISAK. The President shall act as the discussion leader in all general and officer meetings, as well as promote team building and participation among members. The President shall serve as the ISAK liaison and be in contact with all outside organizations concerning ISAK. The President shall also coordinate with each officer of ISAK to provide support and guidance concerning their respective responsibilities. The President shall also manage and develop the semester program and create a calendar of events for each active semester he/she is in office. The President also assumes any other responsibilities necessary to fulfill the position of President.
Vice President:
The Vice President assumes all responsibilities of the President, including the management and leadership of meetings, in his/her (the President’s) absence. The Vice President must also coordinate and assist the President (and other officers) with the planning and management of team meetings. The Vice President shall also arrange and verify any room accommodations necessary for ISAK meetings, including any audio/visual equipment that may be needed. The Vice President also assumes any other responsibilities necessary to fulfill the position of Vice President.
Secretary:
The Secretary shall manage and distribute a sign-up sheet for each meeting, and maintain an attendance and/or participation count over the course of the semester. This includes taking note of any special circumstances of absence for any member(s) of ISAK. The Secretary shall also prepare and manage thank you letters, within one (1) week after the event has occurred, for all guest speakers and tours. The Secretary assumes any other responsibilities necessary to fulfill the position of Secretary.
Treasurer:
The Treasurer shall manage the integrity of ISAK’s chart of accounts. This involves maintaining accurate records of all organizational transactions, including petty cash. The Treasurer shall also produce any financial reports that may be necessary for business or team meetings. The Treasurer shall also manage, record, and collect any fees or dues from ISAK members when necessary. The Treasurer must also be aware of ISAK’s purchasing procedures and all rules, regulations, and contacts involved. The Treasurer shall also issue checks and make deposits when necessary. The Treasurer assumes any other responsibilities necessary to fulfill the position of Treasurer.
