Rex Johnson, Deloitte

Rex Johnson came to speak to us about his job as an IT Auditor at Deloitte. Rex is PMP, CISA, and CISSP certified and has a lot of valuable expeirence in the field of Information Systems and Technology. He also answered several questions and provided insight on his certifications. Rex provided some great information and we would like to thank him for his time.

Our last event of the semester was an introduction to the inner workings of the entrepreneurial process. Dave Eagan is a founding member of the internet startup GoChongo. He provided us with insight into the business process (planning, creation, and implementation) of a potentially powerful entrant into the World Wide Web. The organization has fully embraced Web 2.0 and the belief that the future of the web is in user generated content. We were given the opportunity to view a pre-release of the website and provide feedback that may affect the outcome of the sites final design.

In one of the last meetings of the semester we brought together five recent KU graduates to participate in a roundtable discussion with the members of the organization. Topics of discussion included: how to start looking for and finding a job, how to transition from college life to the workplace, and other insights into life after college.


Microsoft on Campus

ISAK sponsored Microsoft’s 2nd visit to the University of Kansas. Microsoft visited the University of Kansas to showcase some of its latest product releases including Microsoft Office 2007 and XNA Game Studio Express. The event was host to more than 100 students from across campus that came to hear from one of the industry’s leaders.

Asna Abassi and Lindsey Schmidt both work for Navigant Consulting out of Denver, Colorado. They specialize in Database Litigation support, creating and customizing high-end databases to meet the needs of their customer’s. Asna and Lindsey were kind enough to provide us with background information on the company, tips on how to succeed in the IS profession, and a demonstration of some of the database tools they work with on a daily basis, including SQL Server 2000, Oracle, and SQL Server 2005.


Elise Rippee, Perceptive Software

Elise Rippee, a technical recruiter from Perceptive Software, came to speak to us about the company and offer tips for the upcoming business career fair. Elise gave us some great information. She divulged what companies are looking for in new hires and shared some valuable insight on how to impress in an interview. She also mentioned that the business career fair is a great opportunity to gain experience in the professional world.
